Turin with Kids: One day at the La Mandria Park

Published by weekendinturin on

If you are visiting Turin with kids, make sure you spend one day in the marvelous La Mandria Park. This is the perfect spot for a nice family day, surrounded by nature.  In this post, I describe our sunny day at La Mandria with my 3-year old nephew. We rented bikes, did a picnic, admired horses & rabbits and ate artisanal ice-cream!

  7. Conclusion & further recommendations

1. Where is the “La Mandria” Park ?

The park is just a few Kms outside Turin city center (15-20 mins drive). It is a Unesco World Heritage site and it’s the largest fenced nature reserve in Europe!

The area is called Venaria, it is a “comune” part of the Turin Metropolitan Area. Here is where the famous Reggia di Venaria is located (which you should also definitely plan to visit).

The location of the La Mandria park is not easy to reach via public transportation from Turin city center. Hence, I recommend to visit it only if you have a car.

2. What to do at “La Mandria” Park?

The park is provided with picnic & barbecue areas, cycling paths, hike paths (4-10 & 15 km) and several eateries making it very convenient for refreshments & restrooms.

It is home to a variety of wild animals who are free to wander around. During our visit we encountered horses, rabbits and a wild boar.

The Park is huge: its 3,000 hectares !

3. Where to rent bikes at La Mandria Park?

The park is equipped with several locations to rent bikes. The one we used was right after the “Ponte Verde” entrance.

We rented 4 bikes for the full day at the cost of 10€/ each. They provide also helmets and kids seats.

Staff is very friendly and speak multiple languages.

4. Is The cycling Path kids friendly?

The path is very easy, it is flat and the surface is very smooth. The absence of bumps and wholes made the ride quite comfortable.

There are no cars. You are completely surrounded by Nature.

The path is surrounded by trees, making it quite easy to find a spot in the shade. As the park is immense, you do not have to worry about fighting to find a free spot!

5. Where to have Lunch & drinks inside the Park?

For lunch, we decided to bring our own food and make a picnic in order to be more agile. Having said that, we did stop by for an aperitivo and enjoyed a nice Spritz and some crisps just before lunch!

If you prefer to eat out, there are several restaurants inside the park!

You don’t need to worry about carrying a lot of food nor water as there several cafés within the park. Furthermore, there are many water fountains along the cycling path making water easily accessible.

7. The Horses inside the La Mandria Park
